Client
WestEd helps schools, districts and states improve education through innovative research, evaluation, and consulting. With its focus for over four decades on success for every learner, WestEd is one of the premier organizations in the field. The Strategic Literacy Initiative within WestEd offers teacher education seminars around the country.
Situation
WestEd has 15 national offices and the Strategic Literacy Initiative (SLI) itself has staff and consultants around the country. Like many organizations, SLI’s needs had outgrown what could be efficiently handled with its existing Filemaker database and plethora of Excel spreadsheets. In the larger WestEd organization, initiatives were already in motion to migrate to Salesforce as the common corporate standard—as a distributed, cloud-based solution that streamlined access and control around critical shared data.
WestEd envisioned an engagement for SLI that would streamline its event tracking and marketing efforts but which could also serve as a template for further Salesforce implementations across the organization.
Execution
Dayspring’s Salesforce consulting team led a requirements process that surfaced key contextual factors, including WestEd’s use of the Apttus AppExchange app. We configured core and custom Salesforce objects to meet SLI’s particular needs—while holding in view the needs of WestEd as a whole—and then handled the complex data migration from the legacy Filemaker database and half a dozen Excel spreadsheets.
The result? A unified platform on which SLI staff manage their Accounts, Contacts, Course offerings and Course Participants, and effectively reach out to their partners, customers and constituents.
Following the successful engagement with SLI, Dayspring has consulted with WestEd on organization-wide solutions for email marketing, record deduplication, the Lead to Opportunity process, and further data migrations.
